George Smith
Vice President Marketing
Mr. Smith is Vice President Marketing of Environmental Risk Solutions based
in Tallahassee. He has over twenty-seven years of environmental experience
focused on the clean-up of environmentally impacted sites, including four
years directing multi-million dollar clean-up contracts for the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection.
Since 1998 Mr. Smith has been instrumental in structuring a number of
guaranteed, fixed-price liability transfer remediation projects. Prior to
joining Environmental Risk Solutions George represented TerraSure in the
development and closure of environmental remediation projects utilizing
insurance products to collateralize liability transfers.
For the State of Florida, Mr. Smith provided consumer protection as a chemist
for the State of Florida for eight years, managed the State’s Coastal Zone
Management Program for two years, and managed $24 Million environmental cleanup
contracts for four years. From 1991 until he joined ERS, he has been an
environmental consultant, providing remediation services for clients including
State, Federal and local governments; military installations; and commercial and
industrial businesses. His clients have included Union Pacific Railroad,
Norfolk Southern Railroad, CSX Transportation and Real Properties, Monsanto,
Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Eglin AFB, Naval Air Station Key
West, Lil’ Champ Food Stores, Air National Guard Tucson, and Pratt Whitney.
Mr. Smith’s work has involved the sales, performance, and management of all
phases of site investigative work, such as Phase I and II ESA Reports,
Contamination Assessments, Risk Assessments, using traditional as well as
screening technologies, such as immunoassay and soil gas technologies. His
remediation projects have encompassed in-situ stabilization and disposal, both
on-site and off-site; excavation and off-site disposal; pump and treat; chemical
oxidation; soil vapor extraction; and bioslurping.
Mr. Smith remains active in the National Brownfields Association, Florida
Brownfields Association, American Chemical Society and various
environmental/real estate organizations. He often gives public lectures on
Environmental Liability Transfer.
